Vol. 119 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Midleton and Mitchelstown Vocational Schools.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state the present position regarding Midleton and Mitchelstown vocational schools and when building work will start.

Mitchelstown.— Sanction was given to the County Cork Vocational Education Committee in April last for the erection of Mitchelstown Vocational School. The original sketch plans submitted had to be revised and the revised plans are now being considered. When they are approved, which it is expected will be very shortly, it will be necessary for the committee's architect to prepare working drawings, which must be approved by my Department before the committee can be permitted to seek tenders. As I am not in a position to say when these preliminaries will be completed, I cannot say when the work of building may commence.

Midleton.—As I informed the Deputy in reply to a similar question on the 2nd November, 1949, the question of Midleton Vocational School comes up for consideration in connection with the building allocation for 1950/51, which has not yet been determined. In the meantime, however, the revised sketch plans are being considered and when approval for this schools is forthcoming procedure similar to that outlined in the case of Mitchelstown will apply, so I cannot at this stage forecast when the work of building will commence.
